We had scheduled a kid free weekend away for about 10 months (yes that’s even before Ernie came along). It was finally here. The reality was that both of us were not really prepared for how tough it is to leave your child with a babysitter for the first time.

Monday, 11 March 2013 20:58 Published in Chubba's Pool RoomToday it’s bloody hot and uncomfortable. The kids are whinging, the parents are whinging, the pets are whinging, and in fact everyone is. So what does a family of whingers do for entertainment? Go out to a massive public event and cook in the hot sun, of course. This should give us enough whinging ammo to last until the end of this March record breaking hot spell.
I learnt something about myself and parenting on the weekend. I had to look after Kid X and Ernie for 2 x 5 hour stretches
The most important part of Christmas for any parent is the visit to Santa and the photo. In case you haven’t noticed yet I am sentimental and enjoy smultz by the bowl full. So I like to keep family traditions going for as long as possible and the number one on this long list of traditions is the visit to Santa. It has to be at the traditional department store in the city and there has to be a day off dedicated to the event.
Tomorrow was always a special day for me and my dad.
