Aussie Social Media Pioneer - Danny Bishop

I'm here sharing a shiraz with Danny Bishop. A friend, father of two, a man who certainly knows his wines, and someone I consider to be a pioneer of social media in the Australian sports industry.

On Business...

You've done a number of interesting things to earn a crust. From changing light globes in traffic lights to running Essendon Football Club's website and social media campaigns, to your current role with IMG. Being the most die-hard Bombers supporter I've ever met, your experience with Essendon must have been very special?

The Tragic Collingwood Supporter

I'm a tragic Collingwood supporter. I once stood next to Lee Walker at the urinal in Melbourne's 'The Imperial' pub and I actually thought having Ball, Dick, Cox, Goldsack, Wood and Johnson at the club at the same time was hilarious. I played 93 games off the bench for Bundoora Junior Footy Club – the club famous for producing AFL players Shane Clayton, Paul Rizonico, Cameron Doyle and Jason Croall.

"Don't tell me you actually watch this crap?" seems to be the response I receive when I tell people I enjoy watching the Brownlow Medal coverage. It's true. I like the round by round season recap, highlights of the great marks and goals, Cyril Rioli dancing around opponents with ease, vision of a fat guy spilling his 4x20 down the front of his T-shirt...and of course, the typical Collingwood supporter stereotype with no teeth screaming at an umpire with spittle running down his chin.
