Over the past year (well alomst) TackleNappy have been broadcasting the weekly TackleNappy Radio Show via Funky Kids Radio. We've recorded twenty five shows and discussed topics as diverse as depression, domestic abuse, to swimming lessons and sex. Self-funded Funky Kids Radio has been a labour of love over the past 15 months for founders Michael and Rachel Cooper. Unfortunately the demands of running a radio station, in addition to traditional day jobs as well as raising a young family, have become too great. "It has pretty much taken one parent out of action a lot of the time and the basic APRA licence we are broadcasting under does not allow any income generation," says Rachel. "That is why we have launched a Pozible crowd-funding campaign this month to generate some support to help keep us streaming." Families can pledge and receive rewards including broadcast of special birthday stories and programming their own shows and organisations can support the campaign and receive low cost advertising packages in a growing medium.

More About Funky Kids Radio

Funky Kids Radio is an on-line broadcast...for kids!! Their goal is to bring a MASSIVE variety of music and storytelling into family homes and care environments...jaded by the THREE HUNDREDTH repeat of the only 2 kids CD's owned!!

Anyone can listen from their computer or their mobile devices through the FREE iOS and Android app's. They stream at only 32 kbps so this minimises data downloads and drop out issues.

Funky Kids Radio play the favourites (and do find the need to "Wash our faces in Orange Juice"), but also introduce artists that don't quite have the same marketing power in the playground. So, yes, The Wiggles and Hi-5...but also The Mudcakes, Kate Rowe and Barry Peters. There's a good balance of music for the grown-ups too! They are also totally focussed on supporting Australian Artists (both Children's music and other genre's) and are devoted to Aussie kids hearing Aussie voices.

There are some pretty clear values on what's IN and what's NOT:

IN:

  • Fun.
  • Learning.
  • Dancing like nuts.
  • Songs about ducks.

NOT:

  • "Wash your mouth with soap" language.
  • Lyrics you wouldn't sing to your grandmother.
  • Downers (songs or people).
  • Junk food.

Check out the Funky Kids Radio Website, on Facebook and Twitter.
