Q and I really are fortunate with Kid A because she has such a beautiful demeanor, a lot of personality, and smarts that already eclipse that of her dads. She's the oldest granddaughter who leads the grandchild pack which consists of five girls - I like to refer to the collective as a Gaggle of girls. Kid A is commonly the boss but at times is bossed by those in the gaggle who possess very strong personalities (hmm...that's Kid B I'm referring to). Kid A commonly gets frustrated that she has to play 'baby games' and at times really craves influence from older kids. On the other side of the coin she can be fantastic with the younger kids. She has been such a good help with four month old Kid C and, when she isn't grumping at her, a fantastic big sister to four year old Kid B.
She's also slight of build, something that really bothers her (if only she could understand now how being skinny could potentially help her later in life, if for nothing else, for self-esteem reasons alone). She does get intimidated by the older and/or stronger kids and finds it hard to assert herself in the school yard. This will change with time no doubt but right now it can be problematic. We've enrolled her in Taekwondo with the purpose of building her self-confidence and so far she absolutely loves it.
We're very proud of our big little girl...and I'd tell her that if I could ply her away from her Enid Blyton book, Nintendogs, Minecraft or World Zombie Head Crusher Domination IIII 3D.
So what's it like being an eight year old in today's world? Bucky has had a go at describing the life of an eight year old. Is he right? Read Life as an Eight Year Old.
